A significant water leak has been reported along Route 40 in Magoffin County, with video posted Saturday appearing to show water flowing from the hillside near the roadway. Former Salyersville Mayor Pete Shepherd, who is currently running for mayor, claims the leak involves an 8-inch main water line maintained by the city and has been reported previously without being repaired. Shepherd criticized the current administration and raised concerns about continued water loss. Appalachia Insider has not independently confirmed or denied Shepherd’s claims. At the time of this posting, Salyersville Mayor Stanley Howard has not responded to our request for comment.
