Sen. Phillip Wheeler and Rep. Bobby McCool recently joined House Appropriations and Revenue Committee Chair Jason Petrie for a tour of the new Johnson Central High School and Career and Technical Center, as local officials continue seeking funding needed to complete the project. Johnson County Schools Superintendent Thom Cochran and Board Chair Bob Hutchison joined the tour and provided an update on construction. Plans for the new campus call for traditional high school and career and technical education in one facility, including 35 career pathways. Johnson County Schools has already received significant state assistance for the project. In 2025, the General Assembly authorized $39.099 million for the district through the School Facility Assistance Fund. Wheeler and McCool said additional funding is still needed to fully complete the district’s plans.
