Johnson County’s new Cedar Island Loop Trail will officially open Saturday, Sept. 26, at Paintsville Lake State Park. The trail is being introduced as Johnson County’s first water-access hiking trail, meaning hikers must reach Cedar Island by kayak, canoe or boat. The dedication will run from noon to 3 p.m., with Kentucky State Parks providing pontoon rides to the island for those who want to experience the new trail. The event is being held with the Johnson County Trail Towns Committee, 361 Adventures, Kentucky State Parks, Johnson County Fiscal Court and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
