Gov. Andy Beshear has signed an executive order creating the Governor’s Office of Music, a new state office focused on supporting Kentucky musicians, venues, festivals and music businesses while promoting the commonwealth’s musical heritage. The announcement was made Friday at Bourbon & Beyond. Sebastian Kitchen, deputy secretary of the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet, will serve as executive director. The initiative also includes a Kentucky Music Industry Directory and plans for a new “Kentucky: Sounds Like Home” license plate. According to the Governor’s Office, Kentucky’s arts industry, including music, has an estimated $6.9 billion economic impact and supports more than 51,000 jobs.
