Gov. Andy Beshear signed an emergency regulation Tuesday aimed at making it easier for eligible veterans and active-duty military members to obtain a Kentucky Commercial Driver’s License. The change allows eligible Kentucky residents who operated commercial-style military vehicles within the past two years to request a waiver of the written knowledge and skills tests. Eligibility is limited to certain military occupational specialties in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force. Applicants must submit the required waiver form to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, which will notify them of approval or denial within 30 days. The move expands on Kentucky’s existing efforts to translate military training and experience into civilian employment opportunities. Kentucky has previously taken other steps aimed at reducing licensing and employment barriers for military families.
