Salyersville Mayor Stanley Howard says work is continuing on the Mountain Parkway Beautification Project following a site inspection Wednesday. According to Howard, three flagpoles are planned at the gateway sign near the Parkway Drive intersection, with the American flag in the center. Construction of the gateway sign has been delayed because of difficulty obtaining the block planned for its base, and contractors are considering a concrete base with a masonry finish instead. Howard also addressed concerns about newly planted trees that have been losing leaves and showing signs of stress. He said the nursery believes the trees are beginning to go dormant, they are being watered daily, and any that fail to bud in the spring will be replaced under the contract. Wayfinding signs and banner poles for holidays, events and community promotion are also planned, with those locations awaiting field review by Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 10.
