Appalachia Insider ยท October 5, 2026
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is reminding candidates, businesses and residents that campaign signs, yard sale signs, business advertisements and other unofficial signs cannot be placed on state highway rights of way.
KYTC District 10 says crews have received complaints and will begin removing signs that obstruct sight distance or interfere with mowing and maintenance. The rule also applies to signs attached to utility poles, road signs, fences and guardrails along state rights of way.
Larger signs that are removed will be kept at the applicable county highway garage for two weeks, while smaller signs may be discarded.
District 10 includes Breathitt, Estill, Lee, Magoffin, Menifee, Morgan, Owsley, Perry, Powell and Wolfe counties.
