Kentucky transportation officials say a new driver’s license database is helping streamline licensing services and reduce wait times at regional offices. The new system, called the Kentucky Information Network for Driver Licensing, or KINDL, replaces a database that had been in use for about 40 years. Officials say it works with the state’s online licensing system to allow customers to complete more tasks remotely, including some renewals and vision screening submissions. The Transportation Cabinet told lawmakers that average walk-in wait times have dropped from about 49 minutes in April to nine minutes. Three additional regional licensing offices are also expected to open, and officials say some libraries could eventually offer vision screenings, allowing more people to complete parts of the process without visiting a regional office.
