Gov. Andy Beshear is urging President Donald Trump to reconsider proposed changes to the federal Head Start program, which serves about 15,000 children in Kentucky. Beshear argues the changes could result in larger class sizes, fewer teachers, shorter program days and reduced health-related services. The Trump administration says the proposal is intended to give local Head Start programs greater flexibility and reduce federal requirements. Beshear sent a personal letter to the president and joined a multistate letter opposing the proposed changes.
