⛽ BESHEAR MOVES TO ALLOW DYED DIESEL ON KENTUCKY ROADS
Appalachia Insider · October 7, 2026
Gov. Andy Beshear announced Wednesday that he has declared a state of emergency that would allow Kentucky farmers and truckers to use untaxed, dyed diesel fuel on public roadways in an effort to reduce fuel costs.
The move follows a federal executive order from President Donald Trump loosening restrictions on the use of tax-exempt dyed diesel. Beshear’s order is expected to take effect Thursday, Oct. 8, pending approval from the Kentucky Attorney General.
The order would remain in effect until the war in Iran ends or the federal order expires on Dec. 31, 2026, whichever comes first.
Beshear’s office says the action is part of broader efforts to reduce fuel costs for Kentucky residents and businesses.
