💰 SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS SET TO INCREASE 3.6% IN 2027
Appalachia Insider · October 14, 2026
The Social Security Administration announced Wednesday a projected 3.6% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for 2027, translating to approximately $75 more per month for the average recipient.
The increase will affect millions of Americans receiving Social Security retirement, disability and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits.
However, some retirees say the increase will not be enough to offset rising costs for groceries, healthcare, housing and other necessities.
The announcement also comes as Social Security faces long-term funding challenges, with trustees projecting that combined trust fund reserves could be depleted by 2034 unless changes are made.
