“I came home because I care about this country and its people.” Dr. Mikel C Wein, an independent candidate for Congress in Kentucky’s 5th District, believes Eastern Kentucky deserves more opportunity, stronger communities, and a greater voice in Washington. A historian and archaeologist who returned to Letcher County after living abroad, Wein says he decided to run after witnessing the challenges facing local people and communities. His message is simple: Eastern Kentuckians shouldn’t have to leave home to find opportunity, and their communities shouldn’t be left behind. “We deserve better than being forgotten.” For Wein, the campaign is about giving Eastern Kentucky another choice and helping communities build a future on their own terms.
