The case involving Robert Smith, a Johnson County man accused of possessing homemade explosives and booby-trapping his property, has reportedly moved to federal court. According to Mountain Top Media, the case stems from a September 3 domestic disturbance in Paintsville, during which police pursued Smith through wooded property allegedly rigged with booby traps. Investigators subsequently discovered two suspected homemade explosive devices at the residence. Following a September preliminary hearing, a Johnson County judge found probable cause to advance the case to a grand jury. Mountain Top Media reports that Smith could face up to 10 years in federal prison and $250,000 in fines if convicted of the applicable federal offense.
