This week’s Magoffin In History features a group of children gathered outside a wooden building in a photograph preserved by the Thompson family. The photograph is labeled “Sunday School, Harper, KY,” but the exact location, date, and occasion have not been independently confirmed. Could this have been a one-room schoolhouse, a Sunday school gathering, or something else entirely? We’re hoping our readers can help solve the mystery! Do you recognize any of the children pictured? Does the building look familiar? Perhaps you attended school or Sunday school here, or remember someone who did. Every photograph has a story, and with your help, we hope to preserve another piece of Eastern Kentucky’s past. Photograph from the Charles G. Thompson, Jr. family collection, courtesy of Brenda Thompson Kendall. #MagoffinInHistory #MagoffinCounty #EasternKentucky #KentuckyHistory #AppalachiaInsider
