Eastern Kentucky’s tourism industry could soon have a new tool to help visitors discover everything the region has to offer. U.S. Senator Rand Paul joined tourism officials and community leaders, such as First Frontier Appalachian Trails and Backroads of Appalachia Thursday, October 29, at Pine Mountain State Resort Park for the second annual Regional Leaf Trail Meeting. The gathering highlighted progress on the Kentucky Leaf Trail and Blossom Byway, an initiative designed to connect and promote attractions, restaurants, lodging and communities throughout Eastern Kentucky. A major highlight was the demonstration of an AI-powered travel planner capable of creating personalized itineraries featuring scenic drives, waterfalls, hiking destinations, historical attractions and local businesses. The technology is still in development, with information from approximately five counties currently incorporated and plans for regional expansion. Organizers also discussed a goal of raising $100,000 for regional advertising and developing a sustainable funding model. During the meeting, Appalachia Insider asked how the system would determine which businesses to recommend, particularly when some may financially support the initiative while others cannot. Organizers acknowledged that these policies remain under development. Tourism officials also discussed funding challenges and opportunities to coordinate existing regional marketing efforts. The initiative represents an effort to showcase Eastern Kentucky’s natural beauty, strengthen regional tourism partnerships and encourage economic development across our communities. Appalachia Insider attended the meeting and will continue following the project’s progress. #AppalachiaInsider #EasternKentucky #RandPaul #KentuckyTourism #EconomicDevelopment #Appalachia
