A dog affectionately named “Lucky” is safe after Wolfe County Search & Rescue pulled him from a narrow ledge overlooking a drop of more than 60 feet Thursday evening. Rescuers responded to a remote area off Big Bend Road, where two dogs had reportedly fallen onto the ledge. Only one remained when crews arrived, and the second dog could not be located. Lucky had been stranded for several days and was initially frightened and defensive. Using hot dogs, beef jerky, and nearly an hour of patience, a rescuer earned his trust before securing a leash and lifting him to safety. The property owner does not own Lucky, and rescuers believe he will be taken to the dog shelter in Hazel Green, where he may have an opportunity to find a permanent home. Sometimes the rescues that leave the biggest impression aren’t human rescues. They’re the ones who can’t tell us they’re scared, but need us just the same. ❤️ Source: Wolfe County Search & Rescue Team #AppalachiaInsider #WolfeCounty #AnimalRescue #EasternKentucky #SearchAndRescue #CommunityHeroes
