American Electric Power (AEP), the parent company of Kentucky Power, reported $1.187 billion in net profits during the third quarter of 2026, a 22% increase over the same period last year. Kentucky Power’s own financial statements show the Eastern Kentucky utility earned $40.8 million in net profits in 2025, up from $36.9 million in 2024. The utility also reported approximately $58.7 million in charges from an AEP subsidiary for management, technical and support services during 2025. These charges represent business expenses, not additional profits. Meanwhile, Kentucky Power customers saw a rate increase take effect March 1, 2026, adding an estimated $10.76 per month, or 5.87%, to a typical residential bill during the first year. The Kentucky Public Service Commission has also ordered an independent audit examining Kentucky Power’s operations and its relationship with AEP. AEP’s $1.19 billion quarterly profit reflects operations across multiple states, not Kentucky Power alone.
