🚧 BRIDGE CLOSED IN BREATHITT COUNTY AFTER STRUCTURAL DAMAGE DISCOVERED
Appalachia Insider · November 6, 2026
A bridge carrying KY 3193 (Wolverine Road) across the North Fork of the Kentucky River in Breathitt County has been closed indefinitely following the discovery of structural damage.
The closure affects the bridge near mile marker 4, where damage was identified in a brace supporting the truss structure.
Originally constructed as a railroad bridge in 1910, the crossing was later converted for vehicle traffic and underwent rehabilitation in 2015. The bridge carries approximately 170 vehicles daily and has a posted weight limit of three tons.
Motorists can use KY 205 (Old KY 15) as an alternate route, which connects with KY 3193 on both sides of the closure.
Barricades and warning signs will be installed. Drivers are reminded that traveling around barricades onto a closed bridge is prohibited.
No reopening date has been announced.
