Salyersville, KY – Attention, Magoffin County Water District customers using the Salyersville Water Works sewer system (city sewer). Contractors are currently on-site addressing a sewer leak on US 460 West, utilizing several vacuum trucks to transfer raw sewage from the leak area to the sewer plant. Importantly, we want to assure everyone that raw sewage is NOT leaking into the Licking River at this time.
Situation Overview
The team is diligently surveying the situation to determine the best course of action for repairing the affected lines. One possibility under consideration is running a temporary line to restore service until the main line can be fully repaired and ready for use.
Key Points:
- Water Quality Unaffected: The sewer leak does not impact the water quality. The leak is located far downstream from the water plant intake pumps.
- Safety Assurance: If there were any safety or water quality issues, immediate warnings and advisories would be issued.
- Water Conservation Request: Customers are advised to conserve water. Every gallon that goes through your drains ends up in the sewer system if you are on their sewer line, so reducing usage helps manage the situation more effectively and reduces the strain on the vacuum trucks on-site.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
For further updates, stay tuned to Magoffin County Water District announcements.
