The Magoffin County Hornets, nestled in the heart of Kentucky, is gearing up for a thrilling Class 3A, District 8 football opener between the Magoffin County Hornets and the Belfry Pirates on Friday, September 22.
The Hornets are entering the game with a 1-4 record this season. Their recent victory over Martin County, with a close score of 16-14 on September 15, marked their first win in the 2023 high school football season. However, the Hornets faced tough competition earlier in the season, with losses against Montgomery County, Lewis County, Leslie County, and Russell. Notably, they put up strong fights in their first two games, losing by just single digits.
On the other side of the field, the Belfry Pirates are coming in with a 2-3 record. They’ve secured wins against Breathitt County and Johnson Central but have faced setbacks against George Rogers Clark, Southwestern, and Pikeville.
The excitement doesn’t end with this game. Magoffin County still has several regular-season games to look forward to, including matchups against Powell County, Lawrence County, Estill County, and Morgan County.
